HEALTH Project

Most hospital wastewater operators in Laos started their careers as plumbers or electricians — with almost no training in medical wastewater management.

In May, together with the Ministry of Health, Lao PDR, we helped change that. Over five days in Vientiane, 14 operators and managers learned the essentials about wastewater and running of treatment systems  from O&M and self-monitoring, maintenance, to health & safety and wastewater disinfection.

The results were clear: average assessment scores rose from 28% before training to nearly 60% after. More importantly, participants left connected to a growing community of practitioners who can now better safeguard hospitals, communities, and the environment.

In cooperation with Public Works Training Institute (PTI) in Laos a wastewater training curriculum and training lab have been established to support the capacity building effort in the Lao sanitation sector.

We’re proud to have led this project alongside our partners: @Ministry of Health, Lao PDR, @Public Works Training Institute (PTI), @the Germany Ministry BMUKN and its program Export Initiative Environmental Protection), and the company @aqua&waste international GmbH.
